Spring in the desert arrives later this month and to help welcome in the new season the annual Spring Fling Quilt Store Shop Hop starts this Thursday.   The event runs Thursday, March 7^th – Saturday, March 9^th with extended hours at all stores from 9am – 5pm.  Quick update:  The Murrieta store opted out of the fabric fun last minute, so the grand prize is getting a tiny makeover.  Still, 18 yards of fabulous fabric is up for grabs.  All stores are featuring the “Bunny Trail” fabric line by Riley Blake Designs and each store will be handing out a free fat quarter (while supplies last).   The line is adorable with Easter eggs, bunnies, tulips, and lots of coordinates. 

During this event all stores are collecting non-perishable food items for local charities.  Boxed and bagged goods are our jam (no glass or expired stuff, please).  Think of what you’d love to eat if you found yourself in a tough spot – let’s make someone’s day brighter.   And although tomato paste is food, try to think of complete foods as opposed to ingredients.  Some examples to help you with your shopping or pantry selections, boxed macaroni and cheese, canned meats and tuna, instant potatoes, soups, juice boxes, cereals, oatmeal, bags of rice or noodles, cake mixes, muffin mixes, and coffee just to name a few. 

You will be rewarded for your food donations by receiving a discount coupon good at any store participating in the run during the month of May. 

Some new shiny goodies at the store: 

Julie by Crystal Manning for Moda Fabrics.  This collection was inspired by Julia Child’s larger-than-life personality and passion for French cuisine.  Her ability to bring joy to the kitchen and the table through her love of food.  This colorful collection will bring joy to your sewing room with bright florals, pops of fruit, teacups and cute little birdies.  Cup of Love is a darling pattern also by Crystal Manning and uses just one layer cake with background fabrics.   We brought in several pieces and the layer cakes, fat quarter packs, and mini charms.  Colors such as porcelain, granite, delft, robins egg, and cherry. 

Soul Fusion by Pat Bravo for Art Gallery Fabrics.  Soulful elegance through an exotic mix of boho-inspired styles.  Deep magenta, mahogany cherry, muddy mauve, berries ‘n’ cream, lilac, deep coral, nectarine, with splashes of olive and minty greens. 

We’ve installed a few new quilts at the store, including two in our youth section featuring fabrics from the Lilliput collection from Art Gallery and the Secret Garden by Lewis and Irene.  Both quilts feature one fabric as the backing inspiration for the front of both quilts.  It started with Lilliput, I just adored the fabric and didn’t want to cut it up…when I stumbled on the Evergreen pattern the vision for colors and quilting were clear and the result is just exactly what I wanted.  This led to another Evergreen quilt in a completely different colorway inspired also by the backing fabric.   We have kits for both the quilts with backing and without backing.   

Front and center we have our new beekeeper quilt displayed.  This is a quilt that has been on our to do list for a while and as with the above-mentioned quilts we couldn’t be happier.  Currently, we do not have kits available, but we are taking interested reservations. 

Lots of new rope basket samples from the Lilliput collection holding children’s books and crayons to Halloween baskets, kitchen baskets and of course sewing room baskets.  We’ve made three sizes that can be used for a myriad of items. 

A few new notions have arrived, the Glow Ruler, unlike any ruler you’ve seen before, designed to bring light where you need it – the lines of your ruler!  The ruler lights up the fabric, helping you see details.  The ruler has a battery that is charged with a USB-C cable which is included.    

Position and press silicone tools allow you to get up close to your seams, pleats, collars and more without burning your fingers.  Great for applique, piecing, binding, and general ironing made with silicone tips and plastic handles.
